The efs Rats Overseas race at end of season was on again for 2018
A very hot and sunny start to the day greeted competitors at the Bintan (Indonesia) Triathlon.
Lovely, tropical Bintan is reached by a 1 hour ferry from Singapore or staying on Resorts over at the Island before and after.
The Sprint distance waves start was at 9:00am and it was already 36C and soooo humid. Big fields all day and the actual numbers competing there was over 1200 starters
With the Sprint done it was time for the Olympic distance with a 12:45 Start time ---just so temp could hit 39C and the humidity 90% . Water temp a sticky 35 degrees -no wetsuits ... LOL
Richard Burnell came out top 10 of swim looking composed and held his spot on the bike course which was a lumpy rolling ride out and back. Big clouds appearing . Then all out on the run laps absolutely copped a massive tropical rain storm that cooled everything down .
Certainly a swing in the conditions thru the day - bit RB pounded it out for a well deserved win in his age group and a good 2:20 time in the crazy weather extremes on the day.
